Flower Wall Decor From Recycled Toilet Paper Roll

There are different unique ways to decorate your wall. Most times, store-bought wall Décor can look too regular and be boring. If you need an art project with a bit of modern flair to give your space that minimalist look, this is the perfect project for you. Toilet paper roll flowers are a great way to recycle material that would have most likely ended up in the trash. All the supplies you need for this art project are very easy to find and are children friendly.
Materials you’ll need for toilet paper roll wall decor:
- Toilet paper towel rolls
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Paintbrush
- Navy blue and gold acrylic paint
- Glue stick
- Glue gun
- Small round mosaic mirrors
- Clothespin
Step by step process to craft the wall decor:
Step 1: Cutting the flowers
To begin, you will need a ruler, pencil, scissors, and toilet paper rolls.
With your ruler and pencil, measure and mark out your preferred width for each petal. You do not want to make the width too small or too wide. About an inch to two inches wide is fine.
Mark the same width on the rolls’ length for all the toilet paper rolls you have got.
Repeat the marking until you are done measuring all your toilet paper rolls.
Grab your pair of scissors and neatly cut all the places marked on the paper towel rolls.
Step 2: Painting the flowers
Now that the flowers are cut up take your navy blue and gold acrylic paint. You can use any color of paint you like. Also, because the paint covers the paper towel roll, it does not matter whether or not you use plain rolls or not.
Neatly paint the outsides of all the cuts you have made.
Once you are done painting, carefully set them down on the table to dry.
Step 3: Making the flower
Take six pieces of the black flower petals and carefully place them next to each other.
Using your glue stick, carefully apply glue to both sides where each petal touches and hold them together.
Secure the glued portions together using a clothespin.
Repeat this gluing process for all the petals of your flower.
You need to hold the petals against each other with a clothespin so they can dry secured together.
Once you are done, set the petals on the table and allow them dry.
Next, take the gold-colored petals and begin applying the glue stick to them
Place them in two’s on top of the black pieces you have already glued together. Use a clothespin to hold them in position.
Take one of the gold flower petals and gently press down on one edge to make it pointy.
Place this petal on top of the two gold petals you have already glued to the top of the black petals. You want the pointy part of the petal sticking out, so ensure that you glue the opposite, curvy portion.
Continue to add more gold petals, pressing the petals that will complete each portion together to form a pointy tip. Repeat this till you have completed your flower. Do not forget to hold the petals in place with clothespins.
Step 4: Decorate your flower
Here you will need your glue gun and your mosaic mirrors.
Take one mosaic mirror and apply a dot of glue.
Carefully place it on the spot where the pointy gold petals meet the regular shaped gold petals. You can decide to put it elsewhere, it’s all up to you and depends on how you would like it to look.
Repeat this till you have decorated the entire flower with mosaic mirrors. If you do not have mosaic mirrors, you can use beads or small fine stones instead.
Now you have a beautiful wall décor to hang up for all your friends to see. You can use any colors you like and decorate using small items such as beads. This project is a fun way to relax or engage a group of people. It is also easy for kids to follow. You can modify it any how you like, making your petals as big or small as you want.
