Easy Marbled Clay Pendant Necklace
The look of marble is very on-trend right now. Marble has such a clean and sophisticated look to it. It has a modern, yet classic feel. If you love the look of marble, but don’t want to pay the price for the real deal, fear not, you can create the look of faux marble using clay! Since the clay is being mixed together, each necklace you make will have a unique look; no two necklaces will be the same!
For this project you will need:
- Sculpey Clay (in Black and Cream)
- Bezeled Oval Pendant
- Black Crochet Thread
- Sculpey Gloss and Glaze
- Paint Brush
- Rolling Pin
- Scissors
- Oven
- Knife
- Oven Safe Pan
Step 1: Pinch off a quarter size of cream clay and a pea size of black clay.
Step 2: Mix the two colors together. Then, begin twisting your clay.
Step 3: Roll your clay into a ball with your hands.
Step 4: Using a rolling pin, roll out your clay. You will want it to be about 1/8 inch thick.
Step 5: Lay your pendant over your clay and use your knife to cut off the excess clay.
Step 6: Place your clay inside of your bezeled pendant. Use your fingers to smooth the edges and the top of your clay. Once your clay is smoothed out, place your pendant on an oven safe baking sheet. Bake your clay according to the directions on the back of the package.
Step 7: After your clay is done baking and has cooled, paint on a layer of Sculpey Gloss and Glaze. Let the glaze dry. I added two layers of Gloss and Glaze to my pendant to make it nice and shiny!
Step 8: Wrap your crochet thread around your neck and decided on how long you want your necklace to be. Cut your thread accordingly.
Step 9: Run your string through the top of your pendant. Line up your two string ends and then tie a knot, securing your necklace.
You now have a faux marbled necklace that looks like the real deal, but for a fraction of the cost! This pendant necklace would make a great gift for a friend or family member.
