IKEA Hack: DIY Bowl Planter
We are in this period of slow transition from winter to spring, some of you have already spotted blooms but yet others are still waiting for the snow to melt away. To those of us, we can meanwhile bring some life to our homes with a plant or two. And for that we need a classy planter to home that plant of ours with this bowl planter that we made from just two IKEA bowls. Talk about a quick solution to your never ending need for new planters or yet another reason to get yourself a new plant at what better time than these days.Let’s move ahead to see how we can make this planter
Materials:
- IKEA 11″ Glass Bowl
- IKEA 5″ wooden bowl
- Gorilla glue ( any other strong glue like E6000 )
- Damp cloth
Steps:
1.Before we begin, make sure to remove tags and wash your bowls clean. For this project I chose Gorilla glue one of the strongest glue in the market so as to make sure the our planter is stable for use. You can use any other strong glue of your choice. Gorilla glue works best if the surface is slightly wet, for that reason we wipe the base of our glass bowl with a damp cloth2.Now, we apply a generous amount of glue. Gorilla glue expands itself after application so its important to not go overboard as it will leak out and possibly distort the surface.3.Place your wooden bowl over the glass bowl ( the wooden bowl will form the base )4. Now invert your bowl to the other side and place some heavy objects into the bowl to help in adhering the them two pieces together. Leave them in a safe corner of your home to dry for 1-2 hours. Once dry and stable, slid the plant of your choice into your new shiny planter. I have a penchant for cascading plants and this planter was rightfully meant for my new lipstick plantIdeally this planter could be used for short and bushy plants. What comes to my mind is the likes of plants such as English ivy, donkey’s tail, string of pearls, devil’s ivy and so on. And not forget it could very well make a great stylish terrarium to home your tiny succulents and cactus’s.We would love to know what you think about this IKEA hack, would you sacrifice your salad bowl to make a planter or it’s a no pass?
