How To Make Bath Salts – Step by Step Guide
Are you worn out and exhausted? In need of some serious rest and relaxation? Treat yourself to a luxurious spa day this weekend with a jar of these simple scented bath salts that you can make yourself with a few common ingredients. You’re sure to feel rejuvenated after a bath with these decadent citrus scented salts.
Here’s what you’ll need for DIY Bath Salts:
- 1 cup of epsom salts, available at your local drug store
- 1/8 cup of sea salt
- 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil
- Essential oils (I used orange and peppermint)
- Food coloring (optional)
- A mason jar
How To Make Bath Salts:
If you’d like to make colored bath salts, begin by adding food coloring to the vegetable oil. I wanted mine to be a pale pink, so I added one drop of red food coloring. If you would prefer not to use food coloring, simply omit this step.
Next, add your desired essential oils. I used 5 drops of orange and 1 drop of peppermint. Mix with a small spoon.
Now dump this mixture into a bowl filled with the epson salt and sea salt.
Mix thoroughly until everything is combined. If at this point you’d like more color or scent, feel free to add more food coloring or essential oil. Be sure to mix it thoroughly again. Let the mixture dry overnight in the bowl, stirring it on occasion. This will help prevent clumping later on.
Now fill up your mason jar, and you’re finished. Now go take a luxurious bath with your handmade bath salts! Be sure to keep them tightly sealed when you’re not using them, to avoid clumping.
You’ll find that the sea salt gives the bathwater a wonderful, silky feel and the scent is sure to invigorate you. The epsom salt will help soothe your achy, sore body too.
These also make a wonderful gift… tie a miniature spoon to the jar with twine and wrap the top with pretty fabric and you’ll be ready to make someone’s day!
