Chocolate Spread Recipe
Hey crafters, it’s time to spread a little love on sunny days. I wanted to share a yummy gift that is sure to bring a smile to your mother’s face if she’s a chocolate lover. Just about everyone I know loves chocolate. It’s one of the best comfort foods you can eat. So if your mom loves chocolate, make her this sweet gift. Tweak the recipe with her preferences, and when it’s done, she can spread it on her breakfast toast, croissant, or fruit dish!
For this recipe, you’ll need:
(Yields about 1 1/2 cups)
- 1/4 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 5 oz. unsalted butter softened
- a pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate morsels (4 oz.)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
In a small saucepan, combine the water, granulated sugar, salt, and cocoa on low heat. Whisk the ingredients together until the texture is smooth. When the mixture begins to simmer, take it off of the heat. Add the vanilla, chocolate morsels, and softened butter. Whisk it together until the mixture melts to a smooth texture. It will not be very thick at this point. Pour the chocolate in a mason jar with a sealed lid. Refrigerate the chocolate until it thickens, which will take a few hours.
If it is too cold and thick when ready to eat, fill about an inch of water in a pot. Place the jar in the water, and turn it on medium heat, just enough for the water to get warm. Keep an eye on it, stir it as it melts, and remove it from the heat when you feel it has softened to your liking. It should only take a few minutes. Another option is to just sit it out at room temperature for a while (though this may take longer).
Yummy!
Add a ribbon or lace around the mason jar to make it extra special. Print a “spreading the love” tag for the lid, and you’re done!
I hope you enjoy this recipe. It’s super easy and a great recipe for kids to make!
