Simple DIY Chain Fringe Earrings Tutorial
Fringe earrings are very trendy these days, so it makes perfect sense to incorporate it into a pair. Today I’m going to show you how to make a gorgeous pair of statement earrings using chain and gold-tone earring wire. The chain is clustered together to form a fringe-like appearance. Keep reading to check out the super simple tutorial.
Here’s what you’ll need for your fringe earrings:
- 3′ of thin gold chain
- (2) 3″ earring wires with loops on the ends
- Chapstick or another similarly sized tube
- Pliers
- Wire cutters
Step by step guide to craft the chain fringe earrings:
Step 1: wrapping wire
Begin by wrapping your earring wires around a tube of chapstick or any other cylindrical item that is 1/2 – 3/4 inches in diameter. This will give you a perfectly round shape. The end of the wires should wrap around to the looped end, as shown in the photo above.
Step 2: bending process
Use your pliers to bend the end of the wires up by about 1/8 of an inch. This creates a place for the wire to be inserted into the loop, keeping your earrings in your ears.
Step 3: cutting chain
Next, you will cut your chain. For each earring, you’ll need one piece of 3 inch long chain, two pieces of 2 1/2 inch long chain, two pieces of 2 inch long chain and two pieces of 1 1/2 inch long chain.
Step 4: arrange the chain
Once you have cut the chain pieces for both earrings, lay them out on your work surface so that the longest piece is in the middle and they get progressively shorter. Slip them onto the earrings in that order.
And that’s it! I told you it was easy. The earrings are very elegant and unique… they will surely garner lots of compliments from your friends.
There are many ways to customize them, too; try making them using silver wire and chain, or adjust the length of the chains. And you might even change the diameter of the hoops if you’d like them to be smaller or larger. Have fun with it!
