Mini Breakfast Banner
Here’s a cool way to surprise your kids or someone in your family with breakfast in bed: their favorite meal topped with a cute, DIY mini garland. Just say “hello” or “happy birthday.” Any greeting on their favorite breakfast meal is sure to brighten up their morning.
For this DIY, you’ll need:
- Small sticker letters
- Cardstock
- Twine
- Cake pop sticks
- Tape
- Scissors
- Pencil
Choose your favorite stickers at the craft store. Be conscious of size, because this garland will probably need the smallest letters you can purchase. I found some adorable glitter sticker letters on sale.
Place the stickers on the cardstock paper, leaving a lot of space on all sides. Draw a 1 inch rectangle around each letter, using a ruler to make sure you draw straight, lines that are parallel with the letters.
Cut out each letter and, optionally, cut a v-shaped flag at the bottom of each one. I always loved garlands that look like mini flags. It’s an extra touch that’s super fun.
Lay the letters on top of the twine to measure how much you need to cut for your garland. Tie the ends of the twine to the cake pop sticks in a double knot so that they don’t slide down.
Make a tiny fold at the top of the flag and use a small piece of tape to secure it to the twine. The tiny flags should hang off of the twine with the tape at the back of it. It may be a tedious process, but it’s the thought that counts, right?
If you want, add some flower embellishments to the ends of the cake pop sticks, to add a little bit of flair and fun. There are many embellishments to choose from at the craft store, so don’t be afraid to step outside of the box here.
Then you should have a finished product. Gently place the ends of the cake pop sticks into his or her favorite batch of pancakes or waffles and you’ve got a colorful and fabulous birthday morning surprise!
