How To Make A Necklace – DIY Pom Pom Style
Pom poms are hot these days, and with good reason… they’re a colorful, three-dimensional version ofthe classic polka dot. They’ve been popping up in the home decor realm, and even the fashion world. But just now are they emerging into the world of jewelry.
So today I’m going to show you how to make your own necklace that’s sure to provoke compliments wherever you go. Let’s get right to it!
Here’s what you’ll need for your pom pom statement necklace:
- Bead Landing chain and gemstone combo
- Chain in a thinner size
- Neon pink cord
- Suede cord
- Green cord
- Pink pom pom trim
- 4 jump rings
- A lobster clasp
- Krazy Glue
- Scissors
- Pliers
How To Make A Necklace:
Begin by flipping the gemstone/chain over and put the pom pom trim along the gemstone side. Tie the green cord in a double knot around the first space between stones.
Start wrapping the cord around and threading it between each stone. Don’t wrap too tightly, or else you won’t be able to see very much of the fun green color. It should start to look like the photo above.
At the end, tie a double knot in the green cord and slip the end back underneath the last loop. Make sure that it is on the back of the gemstone chain, not the front! Use Krazy Glue to attach the end of the cord to the pom pom trim as well as the last green loop. This is just to secure it so the tail doesn’t become visible.
Next, begin attaching the suede cord to the chain in the same manner – by gluing the knot and then wrapping. Again, do not wrap very tightly – this will allow the suede to lay flat. Continue wrapping until you reach the other end.
After tying off the end but before gluing, gently pull out about a half inch of the end of the suede. This will give the necklace a curve so it lays nicely around your neck. This is super important… if you miss this step, the suede part will become wavy when you try to put iton. Now glue that end. Trim off all of the extra tails.
Now it’s time to attach the chain. Simply connect the thinner chain to the thicker one with a jump ring. Now measure it around your neck and clip the thinner chain at your preferred length. Attach the other end in the same way. Now clip the middle of the thinner chain and attach the lobster clasp pieces. And that’s it, you’re all finished!
Now go show off your snazzy new statement necklace!
This necklace is a great way to dress up a white tee or a plain black dress... it adds some serious wow factor to any outfit.
And don’t be scared to try different color combinations… this style would look great with darker jewel tones too. Or even a more dramatic black on black look. Go crazy!
